DC Police Department Creates and Hires First Director of Employee Welfare Support | WDVM25 and DCW50

WASHINGTON (WDVM) – Diana Karczmarczyk will join the Metropolitan Police Department as the new – and first – director of employee welfare support. This position was created as part of Police Chief Robert J. Contee’s priority to place greater emphasis on employee well-being.
âIn order to combat compassion fatigue and to have officers who can serve our community with empathy, we must work to support the well-being of the whole person for all of our members,â said Chief Contee. .
With the new full-time director of wellness position comes two additional clinicians to support the Metropolitan Police Department’s long-standing assistance program.
Dr Karczmarczyk will be responsible for the design, implementation and management of MPD’s wellness programs with a specific focus on mental and physical health. She will coordinate the complex and critical network of agent resources and work to expand member services and participation.
Dr. Karczmarczyk attended George Mason University where she obtained her PhD. in education with a minor in public health and a specialization in international education. She also holds a Masters degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in Public Health in Community Health Education and is a Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES).
Dr Karczmarczyk has 20 years of teaching experience in higher education and in the field of education and health promotion.
